Utica's WFRG celebrates 15 years

January 31, 2003 by Scott Jameson

Big Frog 104 (WFRG) celebrated 15 years on the air Friday morning with a surprise anniversary party during Matt Herkimer's morning drive show. Herkimer, who is the only original air personality left at the station, welcomed several local dignitaries including State Senator Ray Meier, Utica Mayor Tim Julian, and Rome Mayor Joe Griffo.WFRG signed on as 96 Frog on February 1, 1988 in a small building on South Jay Street in Rome. When Forever Broadcasting got a hold of 96.1 FM and 104.3 FM in 1993, they moved 96 Frog to Big Frog 104 and Oldiez 96 (WODZ) took over the former Frog frequency. Forever eventually moved both stations to their current home on Clark Mills Road in Whitesboro. The two stations are now owned by Regent Communications.
