WIXT to become WSYR-TV

February 4, 2005 by Scott Jameson

Radio station 570 WSYR and WIXT TV 9 have been cooperating partners in local news and sports coverage since shortly after Clear Channel Communications purchased the television station more than two years ago. Beginning in April they'll also be sharing the same call-letters: WSYR.

The heritage call-letters on the television side were mothballed 25 years ago after Times Mirror purchased what is now WSTM (Channel 3).

While Clear Channel hopes to build on the synergies of the two stations, WSTM management is afraid that the move may confuse some listeners and translate into erroneous Neilson diary entries.
