WIBX Raises $17,000 for Heart Association
The numbers are in from America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk from Utica this past weekend. More than $1.2 million was raised in total, and Newsradio 950 WIBX is proud to report this year’s Heart Radiothon accounted for $17,000 of that total.
In a news post on their homepage (you’ll have to scroll down quite a ways to find it), the station reports this year’s radiothon finished significantly higher than last year’s total of $12,300.
Even though the Heart Run/Walk and the accompanying telethon have since grown to account for a larger chunk of the total money raised, many tend to forget WIBX was the beginning of it all. The original Heart Run and Radiothon was held 37 years ago, in memory of Ralph Allinger, a WIBX employee who died of heart disease. According to AllAccess.com, WIBX is the only station still holding annual radiothons for the American Heart Association.
