He’s known mostly for his 46 years working at NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) in Syracuse.  Mike Price is retiring from full-time work as of this Thursday.  Why are we reporting on the retirement of a TV personality?  You may not remember it, but he does have ties to local radio as well.

In a press release distributed by WSYR-TV and obtained by CNYRadio.com (which we later found is echoed verbatim as a news story on their website), it’s mentioned that Price’s first job was at WSOQ radio in North Syracuse.  WSOQ signed on at 1220AM in the 1950s (according to radiotimeline.com) and later simulcast with WEZG-FM 100.9 (according to Amy Robbins), but today, there is no station listed at 1200 AM.  (Yes, 100.9 may sound familiar — it’s now WKRL, one of Galaxy’s K-Rock stations.)

The Channel 9 announcement doesn’t specify exactly which years Price worked at WSOQ or what his duties were there.

Today, Price is best-known for his “Good News” segment which airs every weeknight.  Longtime viewers of channel 9 may also remember Price as “Baron Daemon,” a vampire-like character who introduced late night movies, and eventually became the host of a weekday afternoon children’s show from 1962-1967.

Price’s last day on WSYR-TV is this Thursday, July 3.  After relaxing for awhile, he says he plans to do some freelancing with voiceovers, public relations and similar work.
