Man Dies After Attending K-Rockathon

July 30, 2008 by CNYRadio.com

An Oneida County man has died after attending the K-Rockathon earlier this month, according to the Utica Observer-Dispatch.  The paper says James M. Cieri of Westmoreland, 20, suffered a skull fracture, which was discovered after he complained of a headache on the way home from the concert in Weedsport.

Galaxy Communications CEO Ed Levine says the K-Rockathon typically has a few injuries every year, but he thought the number of injuries this year were lower, and he tells the newspaper he was not aware of anything as serious as a skull fracture.

State Police supported that statement, noting that if Cieri did not seek treatment at the concert, then organizers would have had no way to know of his injury.  Troopers say they're considering Cieri's death accidental, but they're still looking for eyewitness accounts to try to figure out exactly how and when Cieri was hurt.
