WHCU to Drop Miller; Adding Beck

August 15, 2008 by CNYRadio.com

Glenn Beck's familiar greeting, "hello.... ya sick, twisted freaks!" will soon be heard every morning in the Ithaca-Cortland market.  Saga news/talker WHCU 870 is adding the popular radio and TV host to its weekday lineup, effective September 2.

WHCU will carry Beck's show live, weekdays from 9am to noon.  "It's the perfect lead-in to Rush Limbaugh," says WHCU program director Geoff Dunn.

Miller's show currently airs from 10am to noon.  WHCU's "Morning Newswatch with Dave Vieser and Geoff Dunn" will be shortened by one hour to accommodate Beck's earlier start.

Vieser, who also serves as assistant PD for WHCU and progressive-talker WNYY, says he doesn't mind getting a little less airtime.  “We’re seeing our audience shifting their listening time earlier, with more and more people with us when the show begins at 5:30 AM, and, frankly, most of them are at work by the time 9 AM rolls around.”  He jokingly adds, “who wants to really hear me chew the fat for more than 3 ½ hours," noting that the change will give him an extra hour to tackle off-air duties.

Glenn Beck is already a familiar name to radio listeners elsewhere in Central New York.  His show is carried in the same 9am-Noon timeslot on WSYR in Syracuse and WTNY in Watertown.  He also hosts a TV show every weeknight on cable's CNN Headline News.
