Help Wanted

December 4, 2008 by CNYRadio.com

If you were ever visited the original CNYRadio.com, you may remember the site was much more than just news articles and basic station listings. For the past few months, we've been working to bring back many more of the original site's features... but we could really use some help to speed things up.

The "CNYRadio.com Station Wiki" is like a mini-Wikipedia, completely devoted to the stations in the four markets covered by CNYRadio.com.  In fact, it's running on the very same software Wikipedia uses, so if you've ever edited pages there, you'll feel right at home on our Wiki.  Even if you've never edited anything on Wikipedia, it's very easy to do.

So What Needs to be Done?

Every station has its own page, with various information -- like phone number, website address, tower stats, program schedule, and so forth.  We've already completed many station pages... but there are still many more to go.  Most of the information is readily available right on each station's website, the FCC website, or elsewhere online.  Our project aims to bring all this information together, into one place.

How Much Time Will it Take?

Every station page already has a "skeleton template" so it's basically just a matter of filling in the blanks.  In many cases, you can fill in the basic details of a station in about 10-15 minutes.  If you want to go all-out and write a brief history for any station, it might take a little longer... but everything on every page is optional.  The beauty of a Wiki is that anything you leave blank will (hopefully) be finished by someone else later.

Just 10-15 minutes?  Sign me up!

Yep, just 10-15 minutes to fill out the basic info for one station page.  If you want to be more thorough, or if you want to continue and do more station pages, you're more than welcome.  But even if we could get a bunch of people to handle just one station page each... we'd be in very good shape to eventually open this up to the general public.

If you're interested, just drop us a note.  Be sure to include your e-mail address, so we can get back to you with details on how to log in to the Wiki.
