Longtime WBRV Host Kenny Youngs Dies

January 27, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

BOONVILLE -- Kenny Youngs, longtime host of the "Afternoon Jamboree" on WBRV, died this past Saturday.  He was 83 years old.

According to his obituary, Youngs' radio career spanned more than 50 years, starting at WREM (now WADR)  in Remsen.  That's where he started the "Afternoon Jamboree."  He moved the program to WBRV in 1982, where he continued with the show until last fall.

Outside of work, Youngs was active in other interests -- including working as manager, drummer and square dance caller for "The Rhythm Riders," a longtime member of the Boonville-Oneida County Fair Board of Directors, and a member of several other local organizations.

Calling hours were held Monday evening, and they continue today from 1-4pm and 6-9pm at the Trainor Funeral Home at 143 Schuyler Street in Boonville (Google Map).   The funeral will be held at the same location on Wednesday at 11am, with interment to follow this spring at the Port Leyden Cemetery.

Online memorial messages may be left on Youngs' listing on the Trainor Funeral Home website.

Our thanks to the CNYRadio.com reader who informed us of Youngs' passing.
