Regent Entering TV… Sort Of

Regent Entering TV… Sort Of

Regent Communications has recently announced plans to launch Interactive TV channels on the websites of the company’s 60 stations… including the four stations it owns in the Utica-Rome market.

Regent is teaming up with Gen2Media on the effort.  The latter says each Regent station website “will feature its own individually-branded Internet television channel capable of providing listeners and Internet visitors with access to originally produced or syndicated video content and programming.”

The system will also allow stations or clusters to insert their own advertising, giving local sales teams another tool to attract clients.

A statement issued from the two companies says three Regent stations in Grand Rapids, MI have already launched their online TV channels.  The rollout will continue with more markets being added each month, through December 2009.

The new Gen2Media channels should not be confused with the TV “channels” already present on some of Regent’s Utica-Rome station websites; those TV channels are powered by E360, a differerent company.  The E360 channels only provide music videos.

More details about Gen2Media and its technology are included in this press release.
