Kiss-FM's "Intern Dave" Stepping Down from Nights

Update 9/17 - Intern Dave has been fired: read the full post here.
UTICA-ROME -- One day after former Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU) middayer Jesse Jordan said she got fired for refusing a reassignment to morning drive, nighttime jock "Intern Dave" Wheeler tells CNYRadio.com he's calling it quits on his weeknight show -- leaving the station with just two full-time jocks.  His last regular show will be this Friday.

That's right -- last regular show -- because Wheeler says, "I will still be on the air on weekends/fill in as needed because of my passion for the industry."

His explanation for the change was short and sweet: "I reached this decision because of many developments and conversations that make me feel uncomfortable with staying on as the night host."

As his on-air name implies, Wheeler got his foot in the door as an unpaid intern during his junior year of high school.  The dedication eventually paid off when he was offered the chance to become the station's weeknight DJ, while still finishing up classes.

Now a college freshman, the Kiss-FM website now has Intern Dave listed as the host of Klub Kiss on late Friday nights, along with an afternoon shift on Sundays.

Kiss-FM Weekday Lineup Update

We were going to be posting an update on the Kiss-FM jock lineup at some point this evening anyway, so we might as well use this opportunity to run down the latest schedule revisions.  Of course, this is subject to change since we don't yet know how the impending night vacancy will impact the big picture.

  • Mornings: Unstaffed?
  • 9am - 2pm: Shaun Andrews
  • 2pm - 7pm: S-Dot
  • 7pm - Midnight: Intern Dave through Friday, then TBA
  • Overnights: Unstaffed?

As noted earlier, S-Dot's move to afternoon drive takes him off the Friday night edition of Klub Kiss.  Intern Dave picks up that shift, from 11pm to 2am.  S-Dot and "DJay 360" continue to co-host "Kiss Rewind" and "The Mov.em.ent 'Til Midnight" on Sunday nights.

At this point, still no official statements or comments from station management.  The employment opportunities page on the station website only says they're looking for "on-air/board operators" but no specific airshifts are listed.
