WXUR Tower Move Complete

September 23, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

UTICA -- Longtime Mohawk Valley fixture Bill Keeler moved his show over to Arjuna Broadcasting's WXUR almost two years ago, but many listeners may not have noticed until earlier this month -- when the station's transmitter moved northwest from Frankfort to the more-popular Smith Hill, overlooking Utica from the north.

GM Mindy Barstein checked in with CNYRadio.com today, to let us know the switchover took place on September 6th... just a tiny bit later than the August date promised by Barstein the last time we reported on the changes, back in July.

Even though the contour map for the original WXUR signal shows good coverage for Utica, you may recall in June, Keeler told CNYRadio.com, "I can't hear [the station] in my own office" along Genesee Street in South Utica.

By relocating to Smith Hill, the transmitter has more height and a more central location to reach more of the market.  WXUR still blankets the southern half of Herkimer County, but reaches even farther west, covering much more of Oneida County -- almost all of it, in fact.  For the first time, we're able to hear the station here at CNYRadio.com HQ (even further west than the contour map boundary) without having to take a drive in the car.
