WHEN Launches Weekly Crunch Show

October 10, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Local hockey fans don't need to wait until game days to hear or talk about Syracuse's AHL franchise on the radio; this season, fans can go "Off the Ice with the Syracuse Crunch" every week on SportsRadio 620 WHEN.  The new show is hosted by new Crunch broadcaster Joe Brown.

The show airs every Thursday from 6-7pm, according to a brief mention near the bottom of the team's homepage.  (There's no mention of the show on WHEN's own website; nor did the Clear Channel station issue a press release about it.)

While we're on the topic, a belated welcome to Brown, who was hired in September to take over for former Crunch broadcaster Bob McElligott, who, as we told you back in July, was "called up" by the Crunch's parent club, the Columbus Bluejackets of the NHL.

Brown may seem familiar; he started his broadcasting career in the early 1990s as a sportscaster for Utica NBC affiliate WKTV, and spent some time at Syracuse NBC affiliate WSTM before heading onto bigger markets like San Antonio and Denver.   He also filled in for "Bobby Mac" on a few Crunch games last season.
