Brent Axe to Get National TV Time

February 16, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Online sports columnist and radio talk show host Brent Axe will be getting some national TV time this coming weekend, covering the historical outdoor AHL game at the State Fairgrounds.

Axe announced on his Twitter feed right around noontime today, "just accepted an invitation to be on the broadcast for the Mirabito Outdoor Classic. I'm going to be the rinkside reporter. Should be fun!"

Moments later, Axe sent another tweet plugging the coverage, which will be carried locally on the Time Warner Sports and nationally on the NHL Network.  TV coverage begins at 12:30pm, while the game is scheduled to begin at 1:00.

The Syracuse Crunch will be hosting the Binghamton Senators.  It's the first AHL game ever to be played outdoors.  For the past several weeks, crews have been working to build an ice rink and setting up other equipment at the New York State Fairgrounds Grandstand.

The game might not normally receive national television coverage, but with NHL action on hiatus during the Winter Olympics, the NHL Network has plenty of room for "fresh" programming through the end of the month.

Axe's weekday afternoon show, On the Block is carried locally by ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS).  Since July, the show has been simulcast on Time Warner Sports.
