‘Cuse Cares Radio/Telethon Raises $42,000 for Haiti

SYRACUSE — We’re a bit late on this one, but much credit is due to Brent Axe, host of On the Block on The Score 1260 (WSKO), Syracuse University, WCNY, and others who helped put together the “Cuse Cares Telethon to raise $42,000 for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti on Friday.

Several well-known names from SU athletics took part, including Derrick Coleman, Billy Owens, John Wallace, Todd Burgan, Roosevelt Bouie, Rafael Addison, Greg Monroe, Wendell Alexis, Dale Shackelford, Howard Triche, Pearl Washington and Lawrence Moten.  They all appeared during Axe’s show Friday afternoon while current SU student-athletes staffed a phone bank at the studios of local public broadcaster WCNY.

The effort was carried live on WSKO, along with the station’s website, and the usual video simulcast on the local Time Warner Sports channel.
