Jay Fishman Leaving WSYR... Sort Of

July 30, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- After three years as a news reporter/anchor and show host at Newsradio 570 WSYR, Jay Fishman announced on-air this morning that he's ending his full-time employment with the station. He's going to focus the bulk of his time on pursuing a law degree, but he'll still be involved with the station on a part-time basis.

To borrow a phrase from Paul Harvey, today's announcement tells "the rest of the story" on our earlier report a few weeks ago, that former 93Q (WNTQ) midday jock Big Jim Donovan had taken over Fishman's hosting duties on Central New York's Saturday Morning News.

Fishman -- who also served as "vacation backup" for WSYR weekday morning host Joe Galuski -- appeared this morning with Galuski near the end of the show to announce his departure to pursue "interests outside of radio." Galuski coaxed Fishman into explaining he'd like to pursue a law degree.

But Fishman isn't gone for good: he tells CNYRadio.com, "I'll be continuing to work on some special projects on WSYR and doing a weekly political segment with Joe -- plus of course election night and coverage of things like the Detroit Auto Show, primaries, etc. that we've done over the last three years."

Aside from enjoying the chance to live in Syracuse and getting to know the people here, Fishman also told CNYRadio.com, "it's really been a great pleasure to work with Joe Galuski as a sort of mentor and more importantly a good friend. I think we've made a lot of great progress on his show the last few years and I hope people enjoy it."

Fishman also wishes the best of luck to Donovan with the Saturday morning show.  And he invites fans to stay in touch via Twitter @fishmanradio.
