Carr's Big Bands, Ballads & Blues Going Online-Only

February 27, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Dick Carr's Big Bands, Ballads & Blues is moving from the radio to the internet.  Carr, the Syracuse-based producer and host of the nationally-syndicated show, says the show will only be available online starting next Sunday.

Carr tells CNYRadio.com the show will run on StandardsChannel.com twice every weekend.  The show will air Fridays from 9pm to midnight, and Sundays from 10am to 1pm.  Carr says the show "is a unique mix of Jazz and Standards," accompanied by his stories behind the music.

Big Bands, Ballads & Blues started in 2001, as part of the lineup at public station WAER 88.3, and in 2003, the show picked up a syndication deal with WOR Radio Networks.  It wasn't long until Buckley Broadcasting, who owned both WOR and WFBL at the time, brought the show over to WFBL.

By 2004, the show had 60 affiliates -- including a local add by WRUN during that station's short stint in the standards format, and an add in New York City, a custom version for WOR.

No word from Carr behind the factors which led to his decision to transition the show from radio to online distribution.
