CBS Reporter Axelrod, Formerly of CNY, Pens Book

May 14, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

NEW YORK CITY -- CBS News national correspondent Jim Axelrod has a new book, released earlier this week.  Axelrod, formerly of Syracuse's WSTM and Utica's WUTR, describes how the memory of his late father inspired him to turn things around -- for his marriage, his career and his personal health.

The book, titled In the Long Run: A Father, a Son, and Unintentional Lessons in Happiness, was released on May 10th.  According to a review on amazon.com, the book describes how Axelrod found himself at a "crossroads" in 2008.  At 45, Axelrod was overweight, drinking too much, and due to his travel for CBS News, he didn't see his family too often.

Then, after finding out his late father ran the New York City marathon at age 46, finishing in 3½ hours, Jim Axelrod was inspired to change his life for the better, to beat his father's time.  The book describes all the challenges Axelrod faced, including some unexpected problems which popped up along the way.

According to his profile on the CBS News website, Axelrod worked in Syracuse from 1990-93 as a producer and reporter at Syracuse NBC affiliate WSTM.  Immediately before that, he spent a short time at Utica ABC affiliate WUTR.  Axelrod has been working for CBS News since 1996.
