Former TV Host's Son Dies After Falling into Lake

July 10, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

Updated 7/12 with arrangements. SYRACUSE -- Our deepest sympathies go out to former NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) personality Julie Abbott-Kenan and her husband Steven Kenan tonight.  We're sorry to report their two-year-old son Cameron died today, after falling into Skaneateles Lake on Saturday.

According to a story on the ABC affiliate's website, Cameron was found unresponsive in the water at about 6:00pm on Saturday.  He was first taken to Auburn Memorial Hospital, then to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he died today.

According to the Syracuse Post-Standard, Cameron was playing at his grandparents' home along the lake.  A spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office told the newspaper the boy "went missing for about five minutes" before he was discovered in the water.

Julie Abbott was one of the original co-hosts of Bridge Street, and before that, she worked in the newsroom as a reporter and anchor.  She and WSYR radio talk show host Jim Reith shared the podium as co-hosts of this year's Syracuse Press Club Professional Recognition Awards and Scholarship Dinner back in May.

Added 7/12: Arrangements Set, Memorial Contributions Requested

According to an obituary published in the Syracuse Post-Standard on Tuesday, funeral services for Cameron Leigh Kenan will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church in Skaneateles. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made in Cameron's memory to the Parks and Recreation Council of Skaneateles (PARCS) at the following address:

PARCS Playground Building Fund
PO Box 891
Skaneateles, NY 13152
