WSEN Trades Casey's 70s Countdowns for the 80s

August 22, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Fans of CNYRadio.com have pointed out that WSEN-FM 92.1 traded in its collection of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 shows from the 1970s, instead airing AT40 shows which originally aired during the 1980s.  It's part of the station's effort to modernize its overall playlist.

One reader -- who requests to remain anonymous -- says he went so far as to contact the station about the change.  In the response he received, GM Don Wagner explains that "80% to 90% of the music we play is from the 80s and 90s," so airing the Kasem archived shows from the 80s "would better fit the station" in terms of the overall sound.

Wagner told our reader there are no plans to reinstate the 70s countdowns on WSEN-FM, but it's something that could be considered for Oldies 1050 (WSEN[AM]), as that station's playlist focuses more on music from the 60s and 70s.  The vintage countdowns air Sundays starting at 8am.
