Robert Jason Fain Dies

September 12, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

ROCHESTER -- Our condolences to the family and friends of former local broadcaster Robert Jason Fain.  He died on Friday at the age of 51.  Fain, better known by his on-air name Rob Jason, worked in a number of radio and TV newsrooms across Central New York before moving to Rochester in 2002.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday in Rochester.

According to Fain's obituary in today's Syracuse Post-Standard, the family will receive visitors from 4-7pm at the Paul Harris Funeral Home at 570 Kings Highway South in Rochester. A memorial service will follow immediately thereafter. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family says donations may be made to the Madeleine Fain Education Account at Summit Federal Credit Union.

Last month, the United States Attorney's office said federal investigators arrested Fain after he allegedly admitted he had been using computers at the Rochester Institute of Technology, his primary employer, to distribute child pornography on the internet. In a press release announcing the arrest, the U.S. Attorney's office said a conviction would have resulted in a prison term ranging from five to twenty years, along with a fine of up to $250,000.

Added 9/13: A notable legal point from one CNYRadio.com reader: "You might add that all charges against him will eventually be dismissed. As a person is not guilty until proven guilty, a person's death prior to either a guilty plea or conviction means that he/she is not guilty at the time of death."
