Dave Coombs to Help Select Heisman Trophy Winner

October 27, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE and UTICA/ROME -- When this year's Heisman Trophy winner is announced, Dave Coombs will be able to say he had a hand in the decision. The co-host of the Gomez and Dave morning show on Syracuse's TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) and Utica's 96.9 WOUR has been selected to take part in voting for this year's Heisman Trophy voting process.

The Heisman Trophy, regarded by many as the most prestigious award in sports, can be awarded to any college football player in the country.  Most of the votes are cast by sports journalists.  The country is divided into six regions, and each region gets 145 votes.  In other words, Coombs is just one out of 145 people selected to vote within the North East region, defined by The Heisman Trust to include Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

In addition to the media votes, all previous living Heisman winners are invited to vote, and one extra vote will be awarded to the winner of an internet poll which is open to the general public.

Telling us about the honor for Coombs, VP Programming Mimi Griswold from Galaxy Communications points out that this year's Heisman winner will be announced in New York City on December 10th. The winner is always revealed after the regular season ends, and before the start of bowl games.

More details about the Heisman balloting process can be found on the Heisman website.
