WATERTOWN — Personalities who once hosted on WCIZ (when it used to be at 97.5FM) gathered earlier this month to say goodbye to a colleague whose life was cut short in a car accident. “Mega” Matt Brenon, 47, died on October 3 after police say his van went off the road and struck a tree in the Town of Montague. Colleagues from Watertown, Syracuse and as far as New Jersey reminisced after attending services for Brenon.
Johnny Keegan from Tunes 92-5 sent the photo. He reminds us of the old format, “before there was Froggy 97, 97-5 rocked!” From left, here are the people in the photo — all information provided by Johnny:
- Joe Munroe (who now works part-time for the current WCIZ, Z93)
- Carl Craft (now PD at WRAT in New Jersey)
- Ted from the Wake Up Crew (now Production Manager at Galaxy Communications in Syracuse)
- Pam Butters (former co-host of the Wake-Up Crew)
- Johnny Keegan (Music Director for Tunes 92-5 WBLH)
Brenon, who used the name “Mega Matt” on the air, hosted the Saturday Night House Party for many years. Although it was an unfortunate circumstance for a reunion, we’re told everyone enjoyed having the chance to see each other again, catch up on things and recount tales of working at the “classic” WCIZ.
Our thanks again to Johnny Keegan for sharing this photo. We’re always interested in a look at what’s happening today at your local radio or TV station… or a notable “blast from the past” you may have uncovered recently.
