WSYR sharing new program director with Rochester stations

SYRACUSE — Insiders tell CNYRadio.com there’s a new program director at News/Talk 106.9 and 570 WSYR.  Aaron Trimmer, who has several years of experience programming news/talk radio stations, replaces Jason Furst, who left in October.  And just as Furst did in the past, we hear Trimmer is also programming Rochester news/talker 1180 WHAM and sports talk 1280 WHTK.

Two CNYRadio.com readers who wished to remain anonymous, but are believed to be trusted sources on the matter, told us of Trimmer’s appointment to the post.  CNYRadio.com contacted Clear Channel management in Syracuse to confirm Trimmer’s status with WSYR.  After more than 24 hours, neither GM Joel Delmonico nor Trimmer himself responded to our inquiry.  Operations Manager Rich Lauber is out of the office until December 26, according to an automatic email response.

Trimmer is listed as program director on the WHAM website and the WHTK website. The WSYR website still lists Jason Furst as PD, but he parted ways with Clear Channel in October to accept a new position with WBT radio in Charlotte, North Carolina.

For several years, Furst worked exclusively in Syracuse; it was not until late last year that Clear Channel added the two Rochester stations to Furst’s plate.  Although Furst had worked in Syracuse since 2006, our sources have heard Trimmer currently spends most of his time in Rochester.

According to his LinkedIn profile — which hasn’t yet been updated to reflect his move to New York — Trimmer previously worked at News Radio 105.5 WERC in Birmingham, Alabama for more than two years.  He has worked for Clear Channel since 1998, save for a 9-month stint with WMAL in Washington, which was at the time, owned by ABC.
