Gary Michaels out, Alexis to middays at TK99 as PD search continues

May 9, 2013 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Gary Michaels and Galaxy Communications have parted ways, as the company continues its search for a permanent new PD / Brand Manager for classic rockers TK 99 and TK 105 (WTKW/WTKV).  Michaels, who had been serving as midday host and Interim PD for the past few months, was relieved of his duties on Friday.

Mimi Griswold, former VP of Programming who has been semi-retired (we'll explain momentarily) since the end of 2012, confirms for CNYRadio.com that Galaxy has chosen to expand its search for a permanent replacement.

As a result, local rock radio veteran Alexis, who joined the station in January to host nights, moves to the midday shift.  Griswold told CNYRadio.com, "so nice to have her back on the air.  Between the two of us, we log nearly 40 years of radio experience in Syracuse."

Although Griswold retired from her full time duties last December, it was announced that she would continue to host "Blue Moon Café" on Sunday mornings, and to serve as a consultant to the company.  But she's been back to working five days a week since March, hosting afternoon drive for Utica-Rome's 96.9 WOUR.  "I have enjoyed all 90 days of retirement and was just getting used to it," she mused.

Griswold tells CNYRadio.com that she and Alexis -- who worked across town at 95X (WAQX) for 17 years, five of them as PD -- will share programming duties for TK99 and TK105 for now.  But she added, "neither one of us are candidates for the permanent position."  That means the gig is still up for grabs, and here's the full, official job posting provided by Griswold:

This may be the best Programming position in America! Heritage Classic Rock station, TK99, WTKW-Syracuse, NY needs a Brand Manager (formerly known as a Program Director). No corporate BS. No consultants. We are locally owned and operated with a high profile morning show in place. Plus, we are the Flagship Station of Syracuse University Athletics.

If you are an experienced Brand Manager/Program Director and have a winning track record of success, we want to talk to you.

You must know the ins and outs of music scheduling, the research and the Classic Rock demo. You must be able to put strategy and marketing in play and still be able to pull a promotion out of your ass.  And be a heavy user of all social media. Oh yeah, and handle an airshift with personality. And love sports and fear nothing.

If you would like to have Jim Boeheim on your speed dial and are ready to bleed Orange and boo Duke, email a brief audio sample along with a snapshot of your winning track record to brandmanager@galaxycommunications.com

We are an EOE.
