POTW: Lunch with TK99 and Coach Shafer (2013)

June 21, 2013 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- The NBA and NHL finals are dominating the sports headlines this week, and there's still a few months of baseball left this year.  But some local sports fans are already looking forward to the start of football season -- specifically, Syracuse University football.  SU flagship station TK99 (WTKW) recently hosted a luncheon with head coach Scott Shafer.

Marissa Greenlar from TK99 owner Galaxy Communications tells CNYRadio.com this photo was taken during a recent luncheon at PJ's in Armory Square.  Invited clients had a chance to talk about the upcoming football season.  Not only is this Shafer's first season as head coach (after four seasons as defensive coordinator), but it will also be Syracuse's first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference, following the NCAA Division I school's decision to exit the Big East Conference.

TK99 and Oswego-area simulcast TK105 (WTKV) normally play classic rock, but are also the flagship stations of the of Syracuse University football and men's basketball radio networks.  The games are simulcast on Galaxy's ESPN Radio stations in Syracuse and Utica, along with 96.9 WOUR in Utica.  The ESPN Radio stations are the flagship for SU men's lacrosse and women's basketball.  Earlier this year, Galaxy announced it has renewed its affiliation with SU for another five years.
