SYRACUSE — A family name familiar to longtime Syracuse residents is back on the air. While Sunny 102 (WZUN) morning meteorologist Mike Ellis is out for the next 5 weeks, Jamie DeLine will be filling in. The recent NYU graduate is the daughter of the late Dick DeLine, and grand-daughter of Jim DeLine, who was on both radio and TV in Syracuse, decades ago.
SYRACUSE — Got all the channel numbers on your Time Warner Cable lineup memorized? At least your favorites, anyway? Well, come June 18, you can forget all those numbers. Time Warner says it’s completely reorganizing its digital cable channel numbers for Syracuse and surrounding areas.
UTICA-ROME — Longtime local radio personality Jerry “The Doctor” Kraus has a new full-time job. Although it’s expected he’ll keep his weekend gig at 92.7 The Drive (WXUR), Kraus has just been named Executive Director of the Stanley Center for the Arts.
SYRACUSE – CBS News extended the long-running Sunday morning interview show Face the Nation from 30 minutes to a full hour last July, but local affiliate WTVH-5 pre-empts the second half-hour in favor of an infomercial. Although that in itself won’t be changing, it will soon be possible for local viewers to watch the full hour, live on their televisions — but there’s a catch.
SYRACUSE — Time Warner Cable’s 24/7 local news channel, YNN, is looking for a new Executive Producer. The vacancy comes after an anonymous CNYTVNews.com reader shares word that Nathan Holst has accepted a similar position at ABC affiliate WMTW in Portland, Maine.
SYRACUSE — After several days of operating at reduced power, it appears Clear Channel CHR Hot 107.9 (WWHT) has resumed broadcasting at its full allotted power of 50,000 watts. Since our May 10 story about a lack of reception in areas farther from Syracuse, we’ve heard through the grapevine there was an equipment malfunction at the transmitter site.
Updated 2:10pm – UTICA — One of the original reporters from the 2011 launch of Eyewitness News on WUTR (ABC-20) and WFXV (Fox-33) is moving on. Chelsea Rarrick announced yesterday was her last day on the job in Utica. She’s got a new job lined up at the CBS affiliate in Richmond, Virginia.
UTICA-ROME — Last month, Shaun Andrews marked his 15th anniversary at 97.9 and 105.5 Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU). Earlier this week, the former intern who worked his way up to program director was recognized with a cake and a personalized plaque.
SYRACUSE — Ann Marie Buerkle, who served one term as a U.S. Representative from 2011 to 2013, says she’s going to debut a one-hour weekend talk show on Newsradio 570 and 106.9 WSYR. The new show, which is actually paid programming, begins on May 25.
SYRACUSE — Recent changes at the Syracuse Post-Standard have resulted in a “stunning” increase in revenue for local radio stations. That’s according to Galaxy Communications CEO/President Ed Levine, who says the newspaper’s changes have helped not just his own stations, but the entire Syracuse radio market as a whole.
