CENTRAL NEW YORK — All this week we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of CNYRadio.com with a series of special reports. Yesterday, several folks who’ve been in local radio for 10+ years explained why they feel consolidation was “the” biggest story from the past decade. Despite the negative side of consolidation, most radio pros are optimistic for what’s ahead. Today, we share their predictions for the next ten years.

CNYRadio.com launched ten years ago — March 1, 2001. To mark the anniversary, we reached out to dozens of local radio personalities and managers. We sent out a series of questions, figuring it would be interesting to see which ones get responses. And one question certainly did — when we asked people to name THE biggest story from radio over the past decade, one common theme was mentioned: consolidation. Welcome to the newly redesigned CNYRadio.com and CNYTVNews.com! Over the past two months or so, your editor has been working behind the scenes to give the site a facelift. Those of you who’ve “liked” our Facebook page have already had the chance to preview the new design while it was under construction. Those of you who have a subscriber login (so you can post comments) will notice the login link in the main menu at the top of the page has been replaced by a new login area in the far-right sidebar. That’s also where you can register for a FREE subscriber account, if you don’t already have one. 
CNYRADIO.COM — For many people, a new year represents a clean slate. Here at CNYRadio.com, your editor is trying to make some improvements to the site in the new year. The changes already started: a new Facebook page launched late in 2010, and work is underway (when the news slows down enough) on a new layout design for the website. Concurrently, I’m doing some housecleaning: after much consideration, I’ve decided to terminate the CNYRadio.com Station Wiki. 
CENTRAL NEW YORK — If you checked out “The Year in Review: 2010,” posted earlier today, you know there were certainly many big stories this year. But which stories were the biggest? Which stories got the most attention from CNYRadio.com readers? As per our tradition, we just checked our server stats to see which stories had the most hits over the past 365 days, and we present to you now, the top 10 stories of 2010.
CENTRAL NEW YORK — When you think of all the station sales and format flips we recapped right here exactly one year ago, we wondered how 2010 would compare with 2009. After all, 2009 was a pretty busy year. But, as we once again review all that happened over the past twelve months… 2010 did a pretty good job in carving out an identity all its own. 
WASHINGTON, DC — Apparently, even the FCC’s website gets to take some time off this holiday season. A temporary FCC homepage says “the normal FCC website and related electronic filing systems and documents” will not be available until 6:00am on Monday, December 20. With several of us working, we can get the archives completely republished much sooner than I’d be able on my own. And you don’t need to be a computer “whiz” to help out! |
