ITHACA/CORTLAND — Lite Rock 97.3 (WYXL) is hosting a Christmas party for Ithaca-area children on Monday, December 18 from 6-8pm. The station is looking for individuals, organizations and businesses willing to donate some time to help make the event a memorable success for the kids who’ll be in attendance.
ITHACA — For nearly sixty years, listeners tuning in to News-Talk 870 WHCU may have heard the voice of Barbara Hall, the station’s longtime Women’s Editor. We’re sorry to hear word from Ithaca of Hall’s passing on Tuesday at the age of 89.

WASHINGTON, DC – For months, broadcast engineers across the country have been counting down to November 9. That’s the date federal authorities have set for the first-ever national-level test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). If the system works as expected, you’ll notice the test interrupting normal programming on nearly every radio and TV station in the country at 2pm on Wednesday.
ITHACA — Two college radio stations in Ithaca will be among hundreds nationwide participating in “College Radio Day” on Tuesday. The plans include airing a special feature program about college radio.
Rare to see such top-level announcements being made during the weekend, but both Clear Channel and National Public Radio have announced their new Chief Operating Officers today. At CC Media Holdings, ”Chairman of Media and Entertainment Platforms” Bob Pittman gets promoted. And NPR’s new leader will be Gary Knell, who transitions from the same title at Sesame Workshop.
CORTLAND — Former local radio and event disc jockey David McGrady has passed away. According to an obituary which appeared in the Syracuse Post Standard on Wednesday, McGrady, 44, had been battling colon cancer. He worked at radio stations in Cortland and Homer following his graduation from SUNY Geneseo.
ITHACA — This week, we’re heading more than half a century back in time, for another look into the extensive collection of longtime Ithaca broadcaster Rudy Paolangeli. Although Rudy may be best known for his long-standing connections with WHCU, this photo goes back even further.
CHICAGO — Formerly of WFBL and WNTQ, Alan Bishop recently won Radio Ink magazine’s “GM of the Year” award, for his work with the Finger Lakes Radio Group in Geneva. The award was presented to Bishop at the NAB-RAB Radio Show last week.
