SYRACUSE — For our latest picture of the week, our congratulations to Bob Brown, the midday host at Classic Hits 92.1 WSEN-FM. Bob and his bride Cathy were among the countless couples worldwide to tie the knot on the memorable date of 11/11/11.
SYRACUSE — Although quite a few people spotted the Google Maps Street View car over the summer (including Utica’s WLZW, Syracuse’s NewsChannel 9 and the Syracuse Post-Standard), it seems most people catch it after it has passed by. But morning host “Big Mike” Fiss of Sunny 102 (WZUN) and Mix 102.5 (WUMX) was lucky enough to spot the car before it arrived — with enough time to run outside and pose for the camera.
OSWEGO — With so many choices on the radio dial, a clear, memorable logo is an important part of any station’s branding strategy. And anytime a station “updates” its logo, it has to update lots of other things — from letterhead and vehicles, to billboards, coffee mugs and … mic flags. This week, a look at how WRVO’s mic flag has evolved over the past 40+ years.
PULASKI — If you know anyone who enjoys fishing, chances are they’ve told you the stories about “the big one” they claim to have caught, or nearly caught… and you wonder if they’re really telling the truth or spinning a tall tale. Well, for one fisherman who used to forecast the weather for Central New York TV viewers, there’s no question about it — he’s got photographic evidence!
SYRACUSE — A friendly wager between two local broadcasters resulted in some public humilation for NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) reporter Keith Kobland. Kobland, who also provides morning news updates for Classic Hits Sunny 102 (WZUN), lost a bet against Sunny morning show co-host Melissa Midgley.
SYRACUSE — There’s plenty of sports history here in Syracuse, and anywhere you find sports, you’ll also find broadcasters. For this latest installment of Picture of the Week, your editor snapped a few shots of broadcaster-related memorabilia on display during a recent visit to the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.
UTICA/ROME — Ever heard of a radio station called WCML? Well, there’s a WCML-FM in Michigan, but we’re talking about the one on the AM dial, here in Central New York. Well… if you ask the FCC, it doesn’t exist, but the Children’s Museum of History, Natural History, Science and Technology in Utica would beg to differ.
SYRACUSE — There’s no doubt the Taste of Syracuse is hard to miss every June — the festival closes several blocks of downtown streets to make way for dozens of vendors and concert stages. But beyond Syracuse, is the event really noticeable? Apparently the answer is yes — at least for one camera watching from more than 400 miles away.
ITHACA — This week, we’re heading more than half a century back in time, for another look into the extensive collection of longtime Ithaca broadcaster Rudy Paolangeli. Although Rudy may be best known for his long-standing connections with WHCU, this photo goes back even further. |
