SYRACUSE — Did you hug a news anchor yesterday? If not, you may have to wait until “National Hug a News Anchor Day” comes around again next year. A couple of local stations observed the “holiday” and shared video online.

WASHINGTON, DC — Are you ready for Syracuse’s “Sweet 16″ game against Indiana tonight? We usually hold “Picture of the Week” until Friday, but given that this week’s photo has to do with the media frenzy surrounding tonight’s game, we decided to move the feature up by a day this week.

UTICA-ROME — Just a little over a week since the Mohawk Valley was jolted by a deadly shooting rampage, an unprecedented effort by local broadcasters. Journalists and disc jockeys set competition aside to help raise money for community organizations that are helping victims of the horrific events of March 13.

SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME — Despite the odd selection of March 9 (as opposed to the seemingly more-obvious March 16) for Saint Patrick’s parades in both Syracuse and Utica, crowds turned out in huge numbers. And as always, broadcasters were a big part of those parades. Today, we’ve got three “Pictures of the Week” submitted by local stations.

UTICA-ROME — Going back nearly 75 years, if this is not the oldest “blast from the past” to join our Picture of the Week collection, it’s certainly got to be pretty close! Even if you weren’t around to hear these guys on Utica’s WIBX back then, there’s a good chance you’ve seen and/or heard one man from this photo who later found decades of success in Hollywood.

Updated with more info – LOS ANGELES — These three men attended a taping of the sitcom Two and a Half Men last September. And what do they have in common? They’ve all worked in Syracuse radio together.

SYRACUSE — Given the sudden popularity of the “Harlem Shake” — more than 93,000 videos on YouTube in less than a month — it was only a matter of time until a local television station got in on the action. And “first” bragging rights go to the crew at CNY Central. Adding to the flavor, several news anchors are joined by several local sports mascots.

Updated 4:55pm – SYRACUSE — Since Wednesday night and through the weekend, car dealers are showing off the latest and greatest in automotive technology at the 2013 Syracuse AutoExpo. But today, we’re headed back in time, for a look at some classic “FM Dial Cards” which were given to visitors who attended the same show in 1976, some 37 years ago. It’s an interesting glimpse of Syracuse radio history.

ITHACA — The late Edward Koch was best known as a three-term mayor of New York City, and before that, as a Congressman representing parts of Manhattan. Although he focused his efforts downstate, there were some occasions where upstate journalists had opportunities to chat with Koch.

UTICA-ROME — Many people will “Wear Red” today, to show their support in the fight against heart disease… but hopefully you don’t mind if the crew at Big Frog 104 (WFRG) happens to be wearing green today — it’s the 25th anniversary of the “Frog” country radio format in the Mohawk Valley. Or, as they’ve been known to call it, a “hoppy birthday.”
