SYRACUSE — Two longtime local radio legends are back in the biz, with help from a third former Syracuse radio talent. Dave Laird and Ron Bee are hosting shifts on Syracuse80sOnline.com, launched over the weekend by Rick “RJ” Jordan.
SYRACUSE — Earlier this week, Arbitron released its Winter 2013 “topline” audience estimates for subscribing commercial radio stations in the Syracuse market. The initial report skips non-commercial stations, but Arbitron allows those numbers to be released — a few days later — by the Radio Research Consortium. And for this latest “book,” Oswego-based WRVO was in front.
NEW YORK CITY — ABC News announced some key staffing changes this week. Among them, former 570 WSYR news reporter Aaron Katersky, a longtime ABC News Radio correspondent, will be expanding his duties into the operation’s investigative reporting unit.
SYRACUSE — No major surprises at the top of the latest radio ratings report from Arbitron. Clear Channel country station B104.7 (WBBS) keeps the first row in the ratings company’s latest audience estimates. And it looks like there are no changes in the ongoing battle between the market’s CHR competitors.
SYRACUSE — Outasight will be back for his second consecutive “93Q Summer Jam on the Island” this June, along with four other national recording acts who will be appearing for their first time at the station’s annual listener appreciation concert in June. And, as has been the case since the first “Summer Jam,” tickets are free, but the only way to get them is to win them.
SYRACUSE — While it’s not officially a “done deal” yet, Galaxy Communications is reportedly expected to hold onto the radio rights for Syracuse University football, basketball and lacrosse for at least another five years. Both sides have spoken favorably about each other, and it appears an official deal could be announced sometime this week.
SYRACUSE — Our latest Picture of the Week headline has nothing to do with the 2:02 commercial breaks Chuck Woolery used to introduce during TV’s Love Connection back in the 80s. Rather, we’ve got two local morning radio co-hosts being photographed at two different recent events… and the photos came to us from two different contributors.

The couple will be honored as “MVPs” this year at The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation’s 14th annual Basket Ball Gala.
OSWEGO — The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) announced the winners of its 2013 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards today. This year, Oswego-based NPR affiliate WRVO was the only radio or television outlet in Central New York to win an award and move on to the national level of competition.
