ROCHESTER — Former local radio personality (he worked in Syracuse, Utica, Watertown and Ithaca) Rick “RJ” Jordan is back on the beach. Earlier this week, Golden Music Nashville, the record label Jordan joined last December, decided to close its doors. RJ says he’s looking for his next opportunity, be it in radio or the record industry.
OSWEGO — NPR affiliate WRVO has a slew of weekend lineup changes taking effect later this month. Some shows will be moving timeslots, while others will be replaced with new programming. Among the more notable changes, The WRVO Playhouse will soon have a consistent 9pm start time, seven nights a week, rather than starting an hour earlier on weekends.
SYRACUSE — Popular announcer Dusty Rhodes will be back on the Syracuse airwaves in May, hosting a four-part series entitled Syracuse Radio in the Fifties on WCNY-HD2. Installments of the program are scheduled to air on Sunday afternoons, starting May 2.
CENTRAL NEW YORK — It’s awards season for local media! The Radio/Television Digital News Association recently announced its regional winners, and the Syracuse Press Club recently announced its full slate of award winners, recognizing excellence in journalism during 2009.
WATERTOWN — Broadcasters partnering with animal shelters is nothing new, but it’s not every day you hear of a pet being named after a radio station. It’s happened though — a North Country dog adoption agency has named one of their pooches after Tunes 92-5 (WBLH). OSWEGO — He was the very first voice heard on the air when WRVO signed on more than four decades ago. Along the way, he served in just about every capacity possible at the station — and this morning, General Manager John Krauss announced he plans to retire at the end of the month.

BOONVILLE — We’re a bit late with this one: fans of the oldies music format on WBRV (900AM) can now get their classic hits fix on the FM side of the dial. It’s all thanks to Flack Broadcasting’s planned acquisition of an FM translator signal no longer needed by North Country Public Radio.
OSWEGO — Dave Bullard is back on the airwaves as the new Senior News Reporter/Producer at the WRVO Stations. He posted the news on his Facebook page last week, he started at the NPR affiliate on Monday and his first story aired today.
OSWEGO — National Public Radio affiliate WRVO announced plans to launch a new locally-produced show co-hosted by Morning Edition host Jason Smith and reporter Jasmyn Belcher. Weekly Edition is set to debut on March 19.
SYRACUSE — For at least the third year in a row, the B104.7 (WBBS) morning show has been nominated for an Academy of Country Music (ACM) award. And once again, a programmer who used to work in Utica and Watertown gets a nomination for his current station in Albany.
