POTW: Independence Day and The Boilermaker (2012)

July 13, 2012 by CNYRadio.com

CENTRAL NEW YORK -- If you enjoy our Picture of the Week (and many who took our recent survey said they do), you're in luck in this Friday the 13th: we've got a "four pack" of photos to share today.  We begin with a radio host in a Syracuse-area Independence Day parade and we continue with three shots from last Sunday's 35th running of the Boilermaker Road Race in Utica.

Here's 93Q (WNTQ) afternoon drive host Rick Roberts, with his daughter Kylie.  You can see the giant 93Q boombox behind them... parading down Fayette Street in Manlius (if you're looking for a more precise reference, note the "Sno Top" cone in the upper-right corner).  Our thanks to frequent Picture of the Week contributor Mark Mangicaro for this submission!  Between the time we received this photo and now, we also got a few from the Boilermaker in Utica this past Sunday.

This one comes to us from morning host and recently-appointed brand manager Davey Jones from Oldiez 96.1 (WODZ), who set-up shop along the race course with the station van and a sound system to play some music and cheer the runners along.  At sister station WIBX 950, Kristine Bellino tells us wall-to-wall live coverage of the race was accompanied by an online gallery of more than 900 photos of runners crossing the finish line.

If any runners weren't aware of Arjuna Broadcasting's 92.7 The Drive (WXUR) before Sunday, they know about the station now -- with the help of a crane truck, a huge banner was hung across the race course.  Someone on the crane snapped dozens of birds-eye view shots of runners, which have all been posted on the station website.

Last but not least, Lite 98.7 (WLZW) morning host Mark Richards took the above shot, giving fans a "behind the scenes" shot of the Time Warner Cable Sports mobile production truck.  It's one of a gallery of about 20 photos showing fans parts of the race they don't normally see.

Got Pictures?

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos!  July has been a busy month -- last week's and this week's installments were both reader-submitted, and we have another reader-submitted photo ready to share with you next week.  We're always interested in what's happening at your station!  Whether it's something recent, or a notable "blast from the past," the email address is cnyradio@cnyradio.com... and with your help, we'll continue to bring you more Pictures of the Week every Friday.
