Every website on the internet generally collects at least SOME information about users who visit. Here, we’ll explain what CNYRadio.com collects from you — whether you’re just passing through, or if you’ve got a Subscriber Account.
Casual Users
CNYRadio.com uses WP-Stats and Google Analytics to collect basic statistics about site traffic, but none of these things can be linked directly to any specific person. For example, we can see how many people visit the site every day, we can tell what percentage of the audiences uses Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc., and we can see which stories are getting the most views. But we can’t see which browser YOU are using right now, which pages you personally viewed, nor can we even tell who you are.
CNYRadio.com also uses Google Ads to help cover our costs of operation. When Google serves advertising to CNYRadio.com, it may use information you’ve made available to Google (such as your search history and browsing history) to provide advertisements that Google “thinks” would be of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here to review the Google Ads privacy policy.
Subscribers
If you register for a Subscriber Account (it’s FREE!) we do need to know a little more about you, but not enough for us to know your true identity (unless you want us to). Here, we will detail how the information you provide to CNYRadio.com is used.
Upon registration, you must create a username, and you must supply your email address. Your email address is required because the site will automatically send you a “verification” email. This helps us make sure you’re a real person, and not some automated “spam bot” setting up fake accounts. This verification email will include a “starter password” for your account.
Upon your first login, you will need to enter your username and the password we sent to your email. You’ll immediately be asked to create a new password for future logins.
After you create your new password, you’ll be taken to a “profile” page which asks several other questions but none of these items are required. They are “default” questions which came with the website’s core software, and there’s just no easy way for me to get rid of them. You can skip all of them — the only required elements are a username, email address and password.
Who can see this information?
- Username – Will be visible anytime you post a comment.
- Website URL – If you provide a URL, your username will appear as a link to this URL when you post comments.
- Everything else (real name, e-mail address, etc.) is viewable by CNYRadio.com management ONLY and is never shared with any third parties. With all due respect, we’ve usually got better things to do than read people’s profiles, so if you fill-in anything else, you’ll only be doing it for yourself.
How will my e-mail address be used?
Your email address is only used for three things:
- To send you that “starter password” email when you register for your account.
- To send you a new password if you ever use the “Forgot Your Password?” link on the login screen.
- RARE: If we have any need to contact you personally and we have no other email address on file (or can’t find one publicly listed online).
CNYRadio.com will never send out “mass e-mails” to our entire membership. We will never share subscriber e-mail addresses with third parties. We hate junk mail just as much as you do.
Even if you post comments, your e-mail address will not be visible, unless YOU type it in the body of your comment. The only “identifying elements” other readers will see with your comments are your username — and your website URL, if you supplied one on your profile.
Why do I need a subscriber account?
Subscriber accounts are only required for posting comments on the main site. The only reason we require to sign up is to prevent spam, impostors or other types of abuse. If you don’t intend to post comments, you do not need an account. All content on CNYRadio.com is 100% free and accessible to everyone, whether you register or not.
