Privacy Policy

Every website on the internet generally collects at least SOME information about users who visit.  Here, we’ll explain what CNYRadio.com collects from you — whether you’re just passing through, or if you’ve got a Subscriber Account.

Casual Users

CNYRadio.com collects some basic stats about all of our visitors as a whole, but none of these things can be linked directly to any specific person.  For example, we can see “X” percent of our visitors use Internet Explorer and “Y” percent use Firefox.  We can see which pages are the most popular.  But we can’t see which browser YOU are using right now, which pages you personally viewed, nor can we even tell who you are.

We also use a third-party advertising company (Google) to serve ads when you visit our website. Google and its client companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.

Subscribers

If you register for a Subscriber Account (it’s FREE!) we do need to know a little more about you, but not enough for us to know your true identity (unless you want us to), and it is used very sparingly.

When you register, our system will ask you to create a username and submit your e-mail address.  Moments later, you’ll receive a “verification” e-mail, which includes a randomly-generated password.  Login with your chosen username and this password.

Upon your first login, you’ll be asked to create a new password.  Simple enough.

Next, you may be asked a bunch of other questions, but NONE of them are required.  They are just “default” questions that came with the software.  The only required items are username, e-mail and password.

Who can see this information?

  • Username – Will be visible anytime you post a comment
  • Website URL – Your username will appear as a link to this URL when you post comments
  • Everything else (real name, e-mail address, etc.) is viewable by CNYRadio.com management ONLY and is never shared with any third parties
In a nutshell, if you don’t want people to know who you are, just make sure your username doesn’t give you away, and leave the website URL blank.

How will my e-mail address be used?
Your e-mail address is only used for that initial “verification” e-mail, and if you ever forget your password. In rare cases, CNYRadio.com management may use this address to contact YOU personally, but we never send out “mass e-mails” to our entire membership.  We do not share e-mail addresses with third parties.  We hate junk mail just as much as you do.

Even when you post comments, your e-mail address will not be visible, unless YOU type it in the body of your comment.  (And we advise against this, as it will likely expose you to spam.)

Why do I need a subscriber account?
Subscriber accounts are only required for posting comments on the main site, or for editing pages in the CNYRadio.com Station Wiki (coming soon).  The only reason we require to sign up is to prevent spam, impostors or other types of abuse.  If you don’t intend to post comments or edit Wiki pages, then you do not need an account — there are no “members only” sections.  All content on CNYRadio.com is 100% free and accessible to everyone, whether you register or not.
