When Arbitron’s fall diary ratings period begins on Thursday, many markets across the country will have new ranking numbers. Syracuse moves from #84 to #85, while Utica-Rome moves from #165 . . . → Read More: Arbitron Moves Syracuse and Utica/Rome Down a Notch

UTICA/ROME — Just a day after we shared and reviewed the Spring 2011 numbers from Eastlan, we now have a partial look at the numbers from Arbitron. Just like the Fall 2010 book, Arbitron has limited public ratings to “subscriber only” status, meaning the media and the public only get to see the results for stations which subscribe to the book. SYRACUSE — A quick glance at the latest audience estimates released by Eastlan Ratings would lead one to believe that Oswego-based NPR affiliate WRVO has bragging rights as the #1 station in Syracuse. But look a little deeper and it appears Clear Channel’s WSYR has maintained its spot at the top of the market, when you add the ratings for 570AM and 106.9FM together. [More »]

SYRACUSE — Management at KISS-FM say they’re almost finished rebuilding following a fire that destroyed their studios almost one year ago. But when the internet stream and Part 15 transmitters come back online, they won’t be covering the Syracuse area. Instead, station management tells CNYRadio.com they’re heading north, preparing to do battle in the Watertown market. [More »]

COLUMBIA, MD — While radio ratings in the nation’s largest markets have been reliant on Portable People Meters (PPMs) for quite some time now, the numbers in many markets — including Syracuse and Utica — are still calculated “the old-fashioned way,” with ratings diaries. But yesterday, Arbitron gave it’s first public preview of “Project Leapfrog,” the ratings giant’s plans to modernize ratings data collection in non-PPM markets. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — Some slight confusion between two stations on adjacent frequencies has caused Arbitron to revise its audience estimates for the Utica-Rome market. The revisions, due out Tuesday at 10:00am, are expected to result in higher numbers for adult standards B95.5/WUTQ/WADR. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — For the first time in two years, Arbitron’s audience estimates for the Utica-Rome market are NOT embargoed from the general public. But there’s one very noticeable “asterisk” on the results — stations owned by Galaxy Communications do not appear on the list. Arbitron didn’t provide a reason, but we suspect it has . . . → Read More: Arbitron Releases Utica/Rome, Ignores Galaxy

UTICA-ROME — Even though Arbitron didn’t release its Spring 2010 ratings estimates to the general public (the market’s actually been embargoed since the Fall 2008 book), Arbitron’s Fair Use policy says media can report on certain ratings data — as long as the data is provided by subscribers. That’s just what happened, so for the first time in over a year, we have a snapshot of the radio battle in the Mohawk Valley. [More »]

WATERTOWN — Despite the fact the numbers were recalculated after two in-tab diaries were discarded from the Fall 2009 survey period, there do not appear to be any major surprises in the latest Arbitron ratings released for the Watertown market… or in the re-issued Fall 2009 numbers. [More »]
