SYRACUSE — Years before the practice of radio stations “going all-Christmas” became a popular trend across the country, there was Big Mike’s Christmas Broadcast. Every year, Sunny 102′s Big Mike Fiss invites dozens of local musicians to perform holiday favorites live on the air. This year was particularly notable — it was the 30th year Fiss has staged his popular Christmas special.

Updated 9:00pm with date correction – SYRACUSE — Longtime morning show host “Big Mike” Fiss is promising “the biggest line-up ever” for his annual Christmas broadcast on Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) on Wednesday, December 21. That’s because this will be the 30th year Fiss has hosted the live-on-location broadcast, featuring holiday favorites performed by local talent. You can listen on the radio or attend in person. 
SYRACUSE — Although quite a few people spotted the Google Maps Street View car over the summer (including Utica’s WLZW, Syracuse’s NewsChannel 9 and the Syracuse Post-Standard), it seems most people catch it after it has passed by. But morning host “Big Mike” Fiss of Sunny 102 (WZUN) and Mix 102.5 (WUMX) was lucky enough to spot the car before it arrived — with enough time to run outside and pose for the camera.
SYRACUSE and UTICA/ROME — Just like the previous few years, the start of November has brought about the start of wall-to-wall Christmas music on radios across Central New York. As expected, Galaxy’s Classic Hits Sunny 102 (WZUN) in Syracuse and Hot AC Mix 102.5 (WUMX) in Utica/Rome are first to jump in the all-Christmas pool. 
SYRACUSE — How’d you like to be inducted to a Hall of Fame someday? How about two? Longtime local broadcaster Rick Gary, the current afternoon host at Syracuse’s Sunny 102 (WZUN) and Utica’s Mix 102.5 (WUMX) is already in the NYS Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame… and later this fall, he’ll join the SAMMYs Hall of Fame in Syracuse. 
SYRACUSE — This week, we’ve got not one… not two… but four different Pictures of the Week. Syracuse radio stations were out in full force at a number of special events last weekend. It wouldn’t be fair to choose just one and make the others wait for another week or two, so we just decided to feature them all today.

SYRACUSE — It’s no surprise — especially after national coverage on Good Morning America and in the New York Times — Syracuse and its neighbors have received plenty of snow this year. There were a few days recently where snow was falling as fast as 2 inches an hour, and one local morning man appears to be “all snowed out.”
SYRACUSE — Sunny 102 (WZUN) morning host “Big Mike” Fiss says he’s ready for his 29th Annual Live Christmas Show Broadcast, featuring more than a dozen professional vocalists, plus live performances from more than a dozen choruses from local schools and other community organizations. The broadcast is set to take place this Friday. 
SYRACUSE — Tommy Nast of the former 94 Rock (present-day Y94FM / WYYY) was back in town last night, recounting some of the battles he waged against 95X (WAQX) back when the two stations were bitter rivals. Nast spoke at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYs) Hall of Fame induction ceremony last night. |
