UTICA/ROME — Less than two weeks after crosstown competitor Mix 102.5 (WUMX) went all-Christmas, the market’s heritage AC station, Lite 98.7 (WLZW) has made the switch. SYRACUSE — It’s been a full week since longtime WSYR radio talk show host Jim Reith was replaced by syndicated programming, as part of Clear Channel’s latest nationwide “reduction in force.”  (Three others in Syracuse were also let go.)   While quite a few naysayers were quick to express their delight with Reith’s cancellation, many more fans have expressed hope he’ll return.  One fan has even launched an entire website devoted to getting Reith back on local airwaves.

SYRACUSE — Earlier today, we reported Jim Reith has exited WSYR radio, after 27 years at the news/talk station.  It appears Reith’s departure is among many nationwide, ordered by WSYR’s owner, Clear Channel Communications.  Since this afternoon, the tips have poured in, and we’ve learned at least three others received pink slips in Syracuse today. SYRACUSE — Longtime local radio fixture Jim Reith has exited FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR.  In place of his weekday 3-7pm talk show, the Clear Channel station’s website now says syndicated host Sean Hannity will air from 3-5pm, followed by “Daily Wrap with Joe Galuski” for the 5pm hour.  Syndicated host Michael Savage begins at 6pm, going for the next seven hours. Clear Channel and NPR Name New CEOs

Rare to see such top-level announcements being made during the weekend, but both Clear Channel and National Public Radio have announced their new Chief Operating Officers today.  At CC Media Holdings, ”Chairman of Media and Entertainment Platforms” Bob Pittman gets promoted.  And NPR’s new leader will be Gary Knell, who transitions from the same title at Sesame Workshop.
