SYRACUSE — Two weeks after Bob Lonsberry took over afternoons at FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR, his show has been extended by an extra hour. The Rochester-based host still takes to the airwaves at 3pm, but as of today, his show runs until 6pm rather than 5pm.
SYRACUSE — A handful of former Clear Channel Syracuse employees (mostly from WSYR radio) gathered for an impromptu “reunion” on New Year’s Eve. We’ll borrow a phrase commonly used by one of the attendees to say the gathering took place at “an undisclosed location” within Onondaga County.
SYRACUSE — There will be a new local talk show on FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR starting next Monday. Morning host Joe Galuski announced on-air the 3-5pm timeslot will be filled by Bob Lonsberry, a familiar name in the Rochester market, where he’s been doing radio for more than 25 years. The addition of Lonsberry also means additional schedule changes through the evening hours.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — It’s an unprecedented deal between two of the biggest companies in radio: Cumulus Media is joining iHeartRadio, the platform owned by Clear Channel which already provides mobile streaming of more than 800 Clear Channel stations. By adding the 570 stations owned by Cumulus, iHeartRadio will offer roughly 1400 stations — many direct competitors with each other — through one single application.
SYRACUSE — The 9th annual “Radiothon for Kids” is underway this hour on Clear Channel stations B104.7 (WBBS) and FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR. The radiothon aims to raise money to benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. This year, broadcasters will be focusing on helping local children who are battling cancer and blood disorders.
Updated 12/1 – SYRACUSE — While it’s not uncommon to see “Syracuse University” mentioned by national networks like ESPN, those mentions had usually been for game highlights and other routine sports coverage typically afforded Division I schools. That all changed nearly two weeks ago, when ESPN and other networks converged on Syracuse to cover developments in the Bernie Fine case. And it’s been a two-way street, as local broadcasters have been honoring requests to assist stations in other parts of the country.
SYRACUSE — The program director of Syracuse’s FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR now has similar duties with two Clear Channel stations in Rochester. According to AllAccess.com, Jason Furst has been named PD of Rochester stations WHAM (news/talk) and WHTK (sports).

UTICA/ROME — Less than two weeks after crosstown competitor Mix 102.5 (WUMX) went all-Christmas, the market’s heritage AC station, Lite 98.7 (WLZW) has made the switch. Today’s start date is notably earlier than years past: in 2009 and 2010, WLZW waited until the day after Thanksgiving to roll out its holiday playlist.
