The Syracuse Post-Standard reports a judge has issued an injunction, barring Clear Channel from holding an outdoor festival to coincide with the “Taste of Syracuse” event happening in Syracuse’s Clinton Square this weekend. The “Taste of Syracuse” is organized by Snafu Promotions LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Galaxy Communications.
A one-day radiothon on Power 106.9 (WPHR) is being credited with saving Syracuse’s Juneteenth Celebration from being severely cut back this year. The radiothon was held last Sunday at the Clear Channel studios on Plum Street in Syracuse.
B104.7 (WBBS) morning co-host Ron Bee is doing well after back surgery earlier this week, according to an e-mail co-host Becky Palmer sent to listeners today.
Another success story for the power of local radio. A Sunday radiothon on Clear Channel’s Power 106.9 (WPHR) is credited with rescuing Syracuse’s Juneteenth Festival from severe cutbacks due to a lack of funding.
The 3rd annual Bill Leaf Kickball Tournament was held at Onondaga Lake Park on May 17th. The event is a fundraiser for a scholarship named in memory of the WSYR News reporter who was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. (Updated at 1:50pm with complete photo caption.) AllAccess.com reports former Hot 107.9 (WWHT) jock “Jordan” scored a promotion this week. He moves from nights to afternoons at Cincinnati’s Kiss 107 (WKFS).
According to radio-info.com, former local radio news anchor Matt DelSignore has landed an anchor job at the legendary KDKA in Pittsburgh. DelSignore most recently worked for Clear Channel’s WGY in Albany. Before that, he worked at sister station WSYR in Syracuse and then-Regent’s WTNY in Watertown.
Dates for radio and TV talk show host Glenn Beck’s “Summer Political Tour ’08″ have been announced, and Syracuse is one of just 8 cities on the list.
Syracuse’s Newsradio 570 WSYR will have to wait another year to try for one of the coveted NAB Crystal Radio Awards. As we reported last month, WSYR was one of 50 finalists in the entire country, but only 10 stations would win. |
