Updated 1:10pm SYRACUSE — There’s another choice for rock radio in Central New York.  Cumulus Media killed “105.9 The Big Talker” this morning… and after a few hours of stunting, “105.9 The Rebel” launched at 1:05pm.  Cumulus Ops Manager Tom Mitchell says the station was inspired by “hundreds of rock music fans throughout Central New York, who kept telling us that they were tired of hearing the same 150 classic tracks over and over.” [More »]

WSYR Simulcast on 106.9 FM Begins

Minor updates 1/3 at 5:00pm. SYRACUSE — It’s been expected for quite some time now, and at 7:00 this evening, it happened: Clear Channel heritage news/talker 570 WSYR is now being simulcast on the FM dial.  But you’d almost think it was the other way around — with new liners and a new logo branding the station “FM Newsradio 106.9 WSYR,” with almost no mention of the AM dial. WSYR to Begin FM Simulcast?

SYRACUSE — There’s no confirmation yet from Clear Channel, but signs point toward a possible FM simulcast for news/talker WSYR in the near future.  One national radio industry website says it found registrations for five — count ‘em, five — new internet domain names that suggest that WSYR could be moving to the FM dial, displacing one of the cluster’s music stations. ALBANY — Even though Clear Channel news/talker WGY 810 is located well outside of the CNYRadio.com coverage area, the station’s 50,000-watt signal easily reaches much of the Utica-Rome market — where CNYRadio.com readers are reporting the station has added a new FM simulcast. [More »]

Leatherstocking Overtakes WUTI 1150, Flips to Talk

Updated 9/21 at 7:30pm - UTICA/ROME — The endless stream of music on WUTI 1150 is coming to an end.  Owner Bud Williamson told CNYRadio.com late this evening that “1150 will be programmed by Leatherstocking [Media Group] starting tomorrow.”  We presume WUTI will carry the same “CNY Talk Radio” lineup as Leatherstocking stations WFBL/Syracuse and WMCR(AM)/Oneida. Roser Communications Network has turned the simulcast into a trimulcast, with the addition of a new FM translator. [More »]
