OSWEGO — WRVO is one of five public broadcasters chosen to take part in a “major journalism initiative” which will establish a new “Local Journalism Center” tasked with documenting technology’s role in “rebuilding Upstate New York’s economy.” The initiative will fund the hiring of new reporters, a manager to coordinate the efforts, and an interactive web portal to accompany the effort.
OSWEGO — He was the very first voice heard on the air when WRVO signed on more than four decades ago. Along the way, he served in just about every capacity possible at the station — and this morning, General Manager John Krauss announced he plans to retire at the end of the month.

OSWEGO — Dave Bullard is back on the airwaves as the new Senior News Reporter/Producer at the WRVO Stations. He posted the news on his Facebook page last week, he started at the NPR affiliate on Monday and his first story aired today.
OSWEGO — Nearly 3 months after longtime News Director Chris Ulanowski exited WRVO, the NPR affiliate now has a job opening for a position that appears to be his replacement, but — at least in title — it isn’t quite the same job. Rather than seeking a News Director, the station has announced the search for a “Senior News Reporter/Producer.”
OSWEGO — It may be considered an “off year” compared to last year’s presidential election or next year’s mid-term elections, but Election Night is still one of the biggest nights of the year for newsrooms across the country. And while things may have been ho-hum in many parts of the country, there was plenty of excitement in CNY.
OSWEGO — If you use your cable TV service to listen to WRVO, the Oswego-based NPR station wants to hear from you. Apparently, it makes the station eligible to receive more funding.
SYRACUSE — No, that’s not a typo in the headline… Syracuse-based WRVD 90.3 FM will sign-off around 8:30 Saturday morning for some transmitter maintenance work. Fred Vigeant, program director for the WRVO Stations says the outage will last “throughout the day.” Parent station WRVO/Oswego and siblings WRVN/Utica and WRVJ/Watertown will not be affected by the outage.
SYRACUSE — If you work in downtown Syracuse and you rely on WRVD 90.3 to listen to the programming of the WRVO stations, you may be left in the dark for most of the day on Tuesday, March 31.
OSWEGO — In case you forgot, today’s the last day on the air for longtime WRVO fixture John Hurlbutt. The local host of “Morning Edition” is retiring after 40 years at the Oswego-based NPR affiliate. Morning news producer/reporter Jason Smith will assume hosting duties tomorrow.
OSWEGO — Good news for John Hurlbutt: the longtime local host of “Morning Edition” on WRVO can finally retire. After a search that started when Hurlbutt announced his plans to retire in September, the station has chosen to promote Jason Smith to the hosting chair. WRVO is now searching for a morning news producer/anchor to fill Smith’s seat, and WRVO General Manager John Krauss has graciously provided some of his thoughts and reflections from 40 years of working with Hurlbutt at the NPR news/talk affiliate.
