UTICA-ROME — Even though Arbitron didn’t release its Spring 2010 ratings estimates to the general public (the market’s actually been embargoed since the Fall 2008 book), Arbitron’s Fair Use policy says media can report on certain ratings data — as long as the data is provided by subscribers. SYRACUSE — The 15th annual K-Rockathon, hosted by Galaxy Communications trio of K-Rock stations (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) boasted a crowd of 15,000 in attendance this past Saturday. SYRACUSE — When the band Avenged Sevenfold takes the stage during K-Rockathon 15 this Saturday, a live video feed of the performance will be streamed on at least four major websites, allowing fans worldwide to “virtually” join those in attendance at the State Fairgrounds. [More »]

SYRACUSE — We continue to track down details about local winners from the New York State Broadcasters Association’s 44th Annual Excellence in Broadcasting awards. Thanks to one of his co-workers, we’ve learned TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) morning co-host Dave Coombs is on the list. He won his third “Outstanding Sportcast” award at the ceremony on Monday night. SYRACUSE/UTICA — The K-Rock trio of stations (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) has a new host for the night shift. According to PD Nixon, the station has named Candace Curby the new 6-11pm personality, starting June 28th. Current night jock Tiff is exiting for other opportunities outside radio. UTICA-ROME — Stew Schantz, who once served as Operations Manager of Clear Channel’s former Utica-Rome cluster, has passed away at the age of 53. He most recently was working as OM and afternoon driver at WUPE in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Anonymous sources say Schantz died Friday morning, of complications following a heart attack Thursday night. Updated 6/14 with official obituary/arrangements. [More »]
RALEIGH, NC — National trades are reporting a promotion for former K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) personality JJ Herr. Since 2007, he’s been working middays at country station WQDR, and now adds Assistant PD duties at the Curtis Media Group-owned station. [More »]
