SYRACUSE — Matthew Benedict, the drunk driver convicted of killing former WSYR radio reporter and WTVH sports anchor Bill Leaf in 2006, could be granted parole this fall. But Bill’s sister Maria — also a former local broadcaster — has launched an online petition to keep Benedict behind bars.

SYRACUSE — Clear Channel news/talker 570 WSYR and CHR Hot 107.9 (WWHT) will team up for a 3-day long “Radiothon for Kids” to benefit patient care at the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse. The radiothon begins tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, and runs through Friday evening. 
SYRACUSE — For the fifth year, dozens gathered at Onondaga Lake Park to compete in the Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament. In addition to the summer league and “civilian” teams that participate every year, various media outlets have formed their own teams to remember the former WSYR reporter who was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. SYRACUSE — Observant CNYRadio.com readers have noticed something interesting on their TV screens: program listings for WSYR-DT’s 9.2 subchannel show timeslots devoted to local hosts from Newsradio 570 WSYR… but so far, neither host has appeared on TV during their respective listed timeslots. Those are usually the most important ratings or sweeps periods of the year. But in Syracuse, you can cross 12 more days off the calendar: The Great New York State Fair. In this “Mega Picture of the Week” we have not one, not ten, but 16 pictures from this year’s fair. SYRACUSE — Bill Ali, known to local radio listeners as “Producer Bill” from The Jim Reith Show on WSYR, has announced his rock band, Dirty Little Secret, will be opening for Bret Michaels at the Regional Market Block Party on August 5th. 
SYRACUSE — Newsradio 570 WSYR’s two-day radiothon to benefit the Golisano Children’s Hospital at University Hospital raised its biggest total yet — the $104,850 raised not only broke a record, but it’s double the amount raised last year. 
TOWN OF CLAY — A number of guest appearances on the show he used to produce apparently didn’t help Dan McIntyre’s campaign. The former Jim Reith Show producer lost his bid for Town of Clay Supervisor on Tuesday night, according to unofficial results posted by the Onondaga County Board of Elections. |
