SYRACUSE — CNY Talk Radio (WFBL/WMCR-AM) local midday host Jon Alvarez announced on today’s broadcast that he’s ending his show, effective immediately. Starting Monday, the stations will fill the time with an extra hour of Laura Ingraham until a permanent replacement is named. (Updated 6:50pm with correction.)
SYRACUSE — About a day after CNY Talk Radio (WFBL/WMCR-A) noontime host Jon Alvarez posted a Facebook tribute to Joe Stack, the social networking site pulled the page down, citing a policy banning “hateful or threatening” pages. Stack was the pilot who took his own life and one other when he crashed a small plane into an IRS office in Texas earlier this week.

ONEIDA — Many folks suspected it–given the chain of events over the past several months–and now it appears the hunches were right: WMCR’s AM signal at 1600 kHz is now simulcasting the “CNY Talk Radio” lineup that originated on Syracuse sister station WFBL 1390.
When the new year rings in, you’ll need cable or satellite television to keep up with broadcasting legend Larry King. Westwood One recently announced they’re taking King’s show off the radio at the end of this year, ending a 52-year run in national radio syndication.
ONEIDA — Things are sounding a little different at WMCR-FM this morning. The station has rebranded itself as “Mix 106.” An anonymous tipster told us about the change late last night. Listening this morning, the changes appear to be minor so far.
SYRACUSE — There’s no more Buckley Radio in Central New York. The Connecticut-based company’s sale of its three-station Syracuse cluster to Leatherstocking Media Group has officially closed.
SYRACUSE — According to AllAccess, the new CNY Talk Radio (WFBL) is among four new affiliates of The Money Pit. The home improvement show, hosted by Tom Kraeutler and Leslie Segrete, airs on the weekend lineup. On a side note, still nothing to see at www.cnytalkradio.com but if you dial up the former website at wfbl.com, you’ll be redirected to the station’s Twitter feed.
SYRACUSE — Earlier this week, we were told the new CNY Talk Radio (WFBL) would have an hour of local programming with a host “to be announced.” Now, we know who that host will be: Jon Alvarez, who some may remember as a frequent guest on the Bill Colley Show, during WFBL’s previous incarnation as a talk station.
SYRACUSE — Satellite problems contributed to a rocky first day for the debut of CNY Talk Radio (1390 WFBL), but Leatherstocking Media Group management says the glitches are being worked out. CNYRadio.com has also obtained the station’s programming lineup, which includes names like Larry King, Phil Hendrie and Jim Bohannon.
SYRACUSE — The new week begins with a new–but old–additional choice for talk radio in the Salt City. Leatherstocking Media Group is launching “CNY Talk Radio” on WFBL 1390, effective tomorrow (Monday) morning at 5:00am.
