Updated 12/31 – SYRACUSE — Longtime local rock radio personality Dave Frisina was fired by Galaxy Communications after his airshifts today on Syracuse’s TK99/TK105 (WTKW/WTKV) and Utica’s 96.9 WOUR. After he broke the news on his own Twitter feed, local media outlets quickly picked up the story. Frisina started his radio career over 33 years ago at 95X (WAQX) and made the move to TK99 in 2003. UTICA/ROME — Starting this fall, radio coverage of Utica College sports will be moving from Townsquare news/talker WIBX to Galaxy’s three Utica-Rome ESPN Radio stations. That’s according to an announcement from the college this week.

UTICA/ROME — We had first reported this on May 25, but it was quickly retracted by those involved. Now, the news is “official” — Gene Conte and Fred Miller are moving from Townsquare Media’s WIBX to Galaxy Communications’ trio of ESPN Radio stations. Conte, who has been serving as PD for WIBX, will become PD of the ESPN trimulcast. ESPN Radio also picks up Dave Peroni for play-by-play duties. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — There’s cause for celebration at Galaxy Communications: the company was named “Business of the Year” by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce. SYRACUSE — The new afternoon show Disturbing the Peace was supposed to debut yesterday on The New ESPN Radio (WTLA/WSGO/W249BC/W259AX). But listeners who tuned in during the advertised 2-6pm timeslot heard ESPN network programming instead. We checked in with Galaxy Communications management to see what happened. [More »]

UTICA-ROME — Galaxy Communications has announced former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts and his current band, Great Southern, will headline the schedule at Classic Rock 96.9 WOUR’s “Party in the Park” concert on July 21.
