UTICA-ROME — There are now three stations in the Utica-Rome market playing non-stop Christmas music. Lite 98.7 (WLZW) made the switch early this morning. It’s the first time in the Regent Communications AC station’s 20-year history that the all-Christmas switch was flipped before Christmas Eve.

About 300 country stations nationwide — including three in Central New York — are hunting for new programming to fill their weekend schedules after Premiere Radio Networks cancelled the long-running “Jeff Foxworthy Countdown” today.
UTICA-ROME — At least three people were pinkslipped from the on-air lineup at Regent’s Oldiez 96 (WODZ) today… but Regent had no control over the changes. The decision was made by Citadel Media, who supplies the station’s syndicated “Classic Hits” satellite feed outside of morning drive.
Less than a week after Citadel Broadcasting announced it may soon be exploring “the possibility of seeking relief through a Chapter 11 filing,” one prominent online columnist explains why he thinks Regent could be in a similar situation. Both companies own stations in Central New York.

Former middayer Jesse Jordan has been hired for the same daypart in a significantly larger market down the Thruway, while former night jock “Intern Dave” drops his nickname to fill some shifts at the Regent cluster across town.

The station has inked a deal to carry Westwood One’s NFL Prime Time lineup, which includes the biggest game of all.
