SYRACUSE — Longtime NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Rod Wood and former longtime WSYR radio talk show host Jim Reith were among many local and national broadcasters to receive write-in votes in Onondaga County this past Election Day. Other names to receive votes include TK99 morning co-host Glenn “Gomez” Adams, and national TV stars like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

SYRACUSE — Local Yankees fans on Twitter seem to be upset and surprised, but radio insiders may not be so shocked to learn Clear Channel’s Syracuse cluster is no longer offering radio coverage of certain weekday afternoon New York Yankees games. That’s likely because FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR, which carries the Yankees games, is also an affiliate of Rush Limbaugh. 
SYRACUSE — Today was Alex Silverman’s last day at Newsradio 570 WSYR. After two years as an anchor and reporter for the Clear Channel station, Silverman is making a 70-market jump and a 2,700-mile drive west to Seattle. 
Rush Limbaugh will return to the airwaves on Wednesday, according to his syndicator, Premiere Radio Networks. The conservative talk host, heard in all 4 CNYRadio.com markets, had a brief scare last week when he was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.
Rush Limbaugh celebrated 20 years of being syndicated nationwide earlier this year. And Newsradio 570 WSYR’s Alex Silverman had a chance to attend a celebration in Austin, Texas. Former San Diego mayor Roger Hedgecock, a frequent substitute for Rush Limbaugh, will have his own nationally-syndicated weekday talkshow starting just after the new year. 
A former WSYR employee tells CNYRadio.com that the Clear Channel news/talker has dropped legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey from their daily lineup. He also appears to be missing from the station’s website. (If you go to www.570wsyr.com and hover your mouse over “Shows” in the menu, Harvey’s name is gone.)
According to the Drudge Report, Premiere Radio Networks and Rush Limbaugh have signed a deal that will keep “America’s Anchorman” on the air through the year 2016, and “the package is valued north of $400 million, according to media insiders.” Rush Limbaugh kicked off his afternoon talk show today by saying, “You’re listening to Rush Limbaugh… and so am I.” Limbaugh confirmed last week’s reports that activation of a cochlear implant was successful and that he can hear about 90% of conversations.
Matt Drudge is reporting that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has regained 80% of his hearing in one ear. Drudge quotes Limbaugh’s brother David as saying that he was able to talk with Rush on the phone after his implant was activated earlier this week in Los Angeles. |
