SYRACUSE — Clear Channel country station B104.7 (WBBS) is once again among the nominees for the Country Music Association Awards. This year, the station is in the running for “CMA Radio Station of the Year” in the Medium Market category. Syndicated personalities carried by stations in Syracuse, Utica and Ithaca are also nominated.
ITHACA — A live broadcast this Friday from the Freedom Tower in New York City is just one of several ways the stations of the Cayuga Radio Group will be reflecting on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. On-air personalities will also be blanketing their listening areas on what the cluster is calling “A Day of CommUNITY.”
ITHACA — A little over two months since “Hits Girl Katie” left Saga’s Hits 103.3 (W277BS) to pursue a new opportunity in New York City, the station has completed a contest to find her replacement. The new Hits Girl was announced today via an email blast to listeners.
ITHACA — Progressive Talk 1470 (WNYY) announced today it’s bringing nationally-syndicated hosts Bill Press, Randi Rhodes and Alan Colmes to town. The “Fair and Unbalanced” show at Ithaca’s Hangar Theatre is set for September 24 and tickets will go on sale this Saturday at 10am.
Updated 6/30 — ITHACA — ROI Broadcasting’s Z95.5 (WFIZ) is looking for a new morning co-host and Program Director, according to a job announcement posted earlier this week. According to station management, current PD/morning co-host Corey is getting ready to move onto his next opportunity.
ITHACA — They called it “A Major Fundraiser” — and they had good reason for the name. All seven stations in Saga’s Cayuga Radio Group urged listeners for contributions to help bring a new police K-9 to Tompkins County after the previous dog, Major, recently died of cancer. Listeners surpassed all expectations.
ITHACA/CORTLAND — Look for some personality changes on the Ithaca radio dial. “Hits Girl Katie” from Hits 103.3 (W277BS) is heading south to New York City, as the station announces the search for its next Hits Girl. Meantime, sister station Lite Rock 97.3 (WYXL) is adding syndicated host Tom Kent to its weekend lineup.
SYRACUSE — Nationally-syndicated progressive talk show host Stephanie Miller is bringing her “Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour” to Syracuse next month. Tickets for the show, which include comedians Hal Sparks and John Fugelsang, went on-sale this past Saturday at 10am. Miller’s show is heard in Syracuse on 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL) and in Ithaca on Progressive Talk 1470 (WNYY).
ITHACA/CORTLAND — The Cayuga Radio Group of Saga Communications has an opening for a programming and promotions person. We’re told the lucky candidate will replace Jason Kester, who originally planned to leave in December, but he had delayed his departure until the spring.
ITHACA — Saga’s Cayuga Radio Group is on the lookout for a traffic manager… meaning “schedule the commercials” kind of traffic, not the “Route 13 is jammed” kind of traffic. It’s a fast paced job, and while experience is preferred — especially with Marketron — training will be provided for the right candidate.
