Updated 6pm: SYRACUSE — Time Warner Cable has announced late this afternoon (via Twitter) that it will be adding the HD version of truTV (formerly CourtTV) to its lineups in time for Syracuse University’s first appearance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Friday night.
Updated — truTV is now available in HD on both FiOS and Time Warner. A new deal between the NCAA, the CBS television network and three different cable channels means you may have to do a little hunting to find Syracuse University mens basketball on your television this year. SYRACUSE — Membership numbers have been booming for student-run media organizations on the Syracuse University campus… and starting this fall, the amount of floor space devoted to those organizations will begin to catch up. A grocery store inside SU’s Watson Hall will be closed down to make way for an expansion of Z89 (WJPZ-FM) and CitrusTV.

ITHACA — Ithaca College’s WICB won the very first “College Radio Woodie” at the mtvU Woodie Awards in 2008, and they’re hoping to pull it off again this year. WICB and three other local college stations made it into the top 25, but WICB is the lone local nominee to make it into the final round of ten. WICB’s fate will be determined by online voting.
SYRACUSE — There will be a new radio home for minor league baseball’s Syracuse Chiefs this season: The Score 1260 (WSKO). The news was just announced this afternoon during On the Block with Brent Axe. Jason Benetti, who called the games last year, will return for his second season behind the mic.
ASHEVILLE, NC — Cleve Mathews, whose career highlights include helping to create NPR’s All Things Considered and nearly 15 years as a professor and administrator at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, has died. Mathews was 84, when esophageal cancer claimed his life in North Carolina late last week.
NEW YORK CITY — Local fans of former WSTM anchor/reporter Jeff Glor will have more chances to see him on TV starting in 2011. The current Saturday anchor of the CBS Evening News will take over the news desk at the CBS Early Show.
