Updated 1:10pm – SYRACUSE — There’s another choice for rock radio in Central New York. Cumulus Media killed “105.9 The Big Talker” this morning… and after a few hours of stunting, “105.9 The Rebel” launched at 1:05pm. Cumulus Ops Manager Tom Mitchell says the station was inspired by “hundreds of rock music fans throughout Central New York, who kept telling us that they were tired of hearing the same 150 classic tracks over and over.” [More »]

Updated 1/4 – BUFFALO — Multiple news media outlets in western New York’s largest city are reporting Cumulus Media’s Buffalo cluster has terminated its 13-year deal to broadcast and syndicate Buffalo Bills games. That report has been creating some question about radio coverage in Syracuse and Utica when the Bills return to the field for the 2012 NFL season later this year. [More »]

SYRACUSE — It’s been a full week since longtime WSYR radio talk show host Jim Reith was replaced by syndicated programming, as part of Clear Channel’s latest nationwide “reduction in force.” (Three others in Syracuse were also let go.) While quite a few naysayers were quick to express their delight with Reith’s cancellation, many more fans have expressed hope he’ll return. One fan has even launched an entire website devoted to getting Reith back on local airwaves.

SYRACUSE — Almost four months after Gary Nolan left the only locally-hosted weekday timeslot at 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL), the Citadel station is putting out the call for a replacement. “We’re searching for someone who knows how to immerse him-or-herself in local issues and converse with local newsmakers and callers,” Ops Manager Tom Mitchell says. SYRACUSE — At the start of his self-titled talk show today, Gary Nolan announced today is his last day at Citadel’s 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL). Just a little over a year since Nolan returned to Syracuse, he’s heading back to Columbia, Missouri to launch a nationally-syndicated show. [More »]

SYRACUSE — After a variety of hosts have shared fill-in duties following the departure of Danny Parkins, we’ve learned Mike Lindsley will be taking over as permanent host for the midday show at sports-talk The Score 1260 (WSKO). He’ll officially begin as host on May 2. [More »]

Updated 3/30: Parkins has Tweeted his new home is Kansas City and he starts his new show there on Monday. His new home is “610 Sports” (KCSP) and his timeslot is weekdays, 9-11am Central.
SYRACUSE — He already left Syracuse once in 2009, after graduating from Syracuse University. Today, Danny Parkins surprised listeners by announcing he’s leaving again: today was his final show at The Score 1260 (WSKO). ALBANY — He worked for many years in the Utica/Rome market, mostly at WRCK and WTLB. Larry Oyer, who went by the name “Big Larry Williams” on the air, has died at the age of 57, following a brief illness. Calling hours and a funeral are set to take place today near Albany, but a memorial service closer to Utica has been scheduled for next weekend. [More »]
