SYRACUSE — Stories in the national trades report a big shakeup at syndicated talk host Michael Smerconish’s home station in Philadelphia — starting in 2011, he’ll be on the air from 3-7pm there. But, his midday talk show will still air live from noon to 3pm, of which the first two hours are carried locally by 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL).

SYRACUSE — Before Stephanie Miller and Bill Press met up in Ithaca for an appearance geared toward listeners of that market’s WNYY… Miller hosted her nationally-syndicated show live from the studios of Syracuse affiliate 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL) on Friday. 
SYRACUSE — As reported earlier this week, 93Q (WNTQ) morning hosts Ted Long and Amy Robbins recently won the Syracuse New Times “Best of Syracuse” award for the “Best Local Morning Radio Show” for the 11th consecutive year. 
SYRACUSE — After three years hosting nights at Citadel CHR 93Q (WNTQ), Mike Cauchon is headed to New England for his next job. And that leaves PD/OM Tom Mitchell on the hunt for a replacement and we’ve got the details on how you can apply. 
SYRACUSE — There are supposed to be three more “Wednesdays on the Water” concerts at the Inner Harbor, but media sponsor 95X (WAQX) says the concert series promoter, NCS Events, has decided to pull the plug on the series. 
SYRACUSE — It’s a pretty common occurrence for The Sean Hannity Show to get pre-empted on WSYR, but usually it’s because the Clear Channel news/talker is carrying live coverage of Yankees baseball. Tonight, the first hour of Hannity was bumped for a full hour of news — hosted by former 93Q personality “Big” Jim Donovan. 
SYRACUSE — There are no more free concerts at the Inner Harbor on Thursday nights, but the venue is just as busy with new promoters hosting a similar event on a new night — it’s called “Wednesdays on the Water.” As evidenced by this week’s POTW, the crowds are just as impressive. 
SYRACUSE — Longtime local radio personality and Syracuse University associate broadcasting professor Dr. Roosevelt “Rick” Wright says radio is “at a fork in the road,” reflecting on the many recent format changes in the market. He also calls out larger corporate owners for buying too many “overvalued” stations too quickly, racking up painful debt.

Timely events usually win the priority battle, but we didn’t want to make Mike wait yet another week (he submitted his picture about a month ago) — so we present a 2-for-1 special featuring both bookends of the 93Q weekday talent lineup!
SYRACUSE — The WLTI call letters at 105.9 The Big Talker are history. Citadel Syracuse OM Tom Mitchell tells CNYRadio.com, effective today, the new call letters are WXTL. The new talk format launched on March 3, replacing Lite Rock 105.9. |
